3.0 The Concept of Traditional House
In general, the forms of homes around the world is made up of three main forms of housing which is half built into the ground ( semi subterranean dwelling ), a house on land (surface dwelling ) and stilted house ( pile dwellings ). For traditional Malay house which included stilt. On the aspect of social function of the house it serves as a refuge from the elements.

Malay houses on stilts once established can be moved and re-erected at another site. However , there are also houses permanently built on a site. Rumah (house) is one of the oldest Malay word, the original use is still a question mark since Javanese house is called ' bhodo' which have a broader meaning.

The word "bhodo" This also applies to mention that building is not simply serving as a family dwelling house. The house is a dwelling to shelter from rain and heat, as a base on which to sail, anchor and return as well as the individual and society, where organized several activities and a variety of other uses.

Because of that, a house is a necessity of human life which is very important apart from food, drink and clothing. The Malay community can not be separated from the house as they are born, lived in and die, and this process is also related to home as their place of residence.

From a psychological standpoint, a house gives off a sense of security, peace, harmony, of caring and loving place, to get a peace of mind and so on. The Malays believe that home is a place that belongs to them in this land that belongs to them in the truest sense.

A house is the status symbol of its inhabitants. Therefore, each of the Malays have their own uniqueness and their own way based on their ability and conditions to make a choice of a house with an attractive and interesting design.
