In Kedah, the Rumah Bumbung Panjang had almost the same shape with its Perlis counterpart but merely a difference in the spatial arrangement only. In Penang, there are several types of traditional Malay houses a different form, namely Rumah Bumbung Panjang, Rumah Serambi dan Rumah Serambi Gajah Menyusu but all of these houses are phasing out. Rumah Serambi Gajah Menyusu can be identified by the shape of the roof where the roof look taller than the roof of the porch.
